Kaycee PRCA Rodeo is in July again!

Changing the date to July for the Deke Latham Memorial PRCA Rodeo was a major decision for the Kaycee Rodeo Committee.  "We had to find a way to make the rodeo more successful," said committee member, Tye Curuchet. "By changing the date, we hope to attract more of the top cowboys and not have a problem with uncertain weather."  He went on to explain that the committee has studied dates, as to conflicts with other rodeos and also what would work best for the community.  This date in July would work for trade-offs for the contestants at Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Burch Rodeo Co. of Rozet, Wyoming. will provide the stock for the Kaycee rodeo.  The Burch Co. has an excellent reputation for providing top rough stock, and traditionally has  taken several horses and bulls to the NFR. Max Burch has bred bucking stock for more that 20 years that cowboys describe as "rank" or "eliminators".

This rodeo started as a predominately rough stock rodeo and we would like to get back to that.  We have a $1000 purse per event and double that amount for the saddle bronc riding, for a purse of $2000 and we are hoping it will encourage more top saddle bronc riders to enter.

Friday night events will be the traditional barbeque, rookie bronc riding, steer roping and rodeo slack if needed. An eight dollar admission fee will be taken to cover all these activities. The parade will take place on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in downtown Kaycee. Our good friend, Jim Thompson, will be announcing the steer roping Friday Night. Derek Barton and John Costello will be announcing the rodeo performances.
